I'm on Lenny's Podcast!

Talking about business impact, things outside of our control, and that one Liz Phair review from 2003.....

For those of you who subscribe to Lenny’s newsletter (which I suspect if many, if not most, if not all of you) this may come as no surprise BUT… my episode of Lenny’s podcast launched today! Lenny’s podcast is a big deal, as the following screenshot I swiped from Lenny’s own LinkedIn and expertly marked up clearly shows:

Lenny’s Podcast!! It’s a big deal, y’all!!

Lenny Rachitsky is highly (and rightly) regarded for taking a thorough, thoughtful, and well-researched approach to these conversations, and I’m so happy with how this episode turned out. We got into depth about why individual product managers should speak the language of business impact, what to do when you need to shift priorities and adjust forecasts, and why the magic of building products—as with the magic of making music—lies in the work we do together.

It’s been amazing to have a peek behind the curtain and see how much work and care goes into making a podcast like this. I am extremely grateful to Lenny and team (thanks Kiki! Thanks Zac!) for trusting me with this mighty platform. I also want to personally thank Frances Adams, Saielle Da Silva, and Roisi Proven for help getting both my pitch and my content together, Robert Karpeles for recommending me to Lenny in the first place, and Dan Corbin, Martin Eriksson, Adrienne Joselow for providing questions and conversation starters.

So please, take a moment, listen to/watch the podcast, share it with folks in your network and tell them that you knew me before I was cool. Or, even better, tell them that as a newsletter subscriber I’m happy to offer you preferred pricing on my consulting/training/speaking services.

What I’m Listening To While I Write All This Stuff

I wound up unexpectedly talking with Lenny at some length about my notorious 2003 Pitchfork review of Liz Phair’s self-titled album and subsequent apology.

One thing I have not talked about much? I… kinda love Funstyle. For those who have not heard it, Funstyle is probably Liz Phair’s most consistently mocked and derided release. The one where she “raps” and says “peenyus-colada.” Is it silly? Yes. Is it cringe? Yes. But it is so free, so unencumbered by self-consciousness, so joyful and expressive… yeah, what can I say, I kinda love it.

Here’s to being weird, cringe, and free. Thanks so much for taking an interest in my work. As always, you can reach me directly at [email protected].
